Washington, D.C. – The Democratic National Committee announced a new website today detailing the just say no approach of the Republican Party over the last 100 days to the President's efforts to jump start the economy, create jobs and make important reforms to and investments in energy, health care and education. The “100 Days of No” website features statements and videos of various Republican leaders, including Mitch McConnell, John Boehner and Eric Cantor, their strategy of saying No, as well as recent polls showing that the American people have unequivocally rejected the Republicans’ ‘just say no’ approach.

The Bay County Young Democrats will hold a kickoff event at 2 p.m. Sunday at the State Theatre in Bay City. The event is free and open to anyone interested in joining or supporting the activities of the group.
Pizza donated by State Rep. Jeff Mayes, D-Bay City, and a hosted concession stand will be provided. After a brief welcome from State Sen. Jim Barcia, D-Bay City, a free screening of the film Frost/Nixon will take place.
Group Chairman Spencer Tobias said he hopes people will come to see what the Young Dems are all about.
Tobias said he hopes to harness the power of peer-to-peer influence to spread the group's message, increase young voter registration and recruit volunteers. Using tools like Facebook, Twitter, e-mail and text messages, the group hopes to establish a strong grassroots network so to ensure a strong presence in the 2010 election cycle in Bay County.
Membership is open to those under age 36, and is not contingent upon joining the state or local party.
Meetings are held on the last Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. Meeting location, membership and further information can be acquired by sending e-mail to youngdems@baycountydems.org.
"Earlier today, President Obama signed the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act. This is a bold expansion of opportunities for all Americans to serve in their communities and around the country."
BACKGROUND ON EDWARD M. KENNEDY SERVE AMERICA ACT:
"The Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act will triple the size of AmeriCorps (from 75,000 to 250,000 members) and focus that service on today’s challenges, including clean energy, education, health care, veterans care, and economic opportunity. The bill will also provide new service opportunities for millions of Americans at all stages of their lives. The legislation will develop a fund to seed and grow successful ideas in the nonprofit sector and build the capacity of the nonprofit sector to use volunteers more effectively."
The White House launched http://serve.gov in partnership with CNCS to find and register volunteer opportunities and share stories of service. Serve.gov is a great opportunity for Americans to find unique ways to serve in their communities.

The Bay County Young Dems are in need of silent auction items for their pizza and movie night kick-off event. The event will take place on Sunday, April 26th, at 2pm. Because this is a free event, any money raised through the silent auction will be their only source of fund raising. If you interested in donating an item, please contact them at youngdems@baycountydems.org. All donations will be acknowledged in their event program.
Thanks for your support!
While the 2010 state election is still many months away, one candidate for Governor, Lt. Governor John Cherry, launched his campaign website earlier today. Following the launch the Lt. Governor sent out the following email message:
Dear Friend,
I wanted you to be one of the first to know the exciting news: the website for A Whole Lot of People Supporting John Cherry is now live at www.peopleforcherry.com!
I have enjoyed learning more about new technologies to make our government more transparent and open to citizens. Last year, I was the first Lt. Governor in the country to join Twitter, and have been active on Facebook for some time now. Ultimately, this is a website for you. To that end, you can submit photos and videos on our site, and we'll feature them. But, that's not all.
www.peopleforcherry.com also features:
* A full blog, with all of my blog posts from the summer collected together. There are more posts to come, and I look forward to hearing your comments too!
* A newsroom, where you'll find the latest news stories, including the recent endorsements by A Whole Lot of Democratic county party chairs, municipal officials, and county leaders
* The ability to sign up for email news updates on the issues you care about, and to sign up to volunteer in your area
* Posters and stickers to download and print
* Widgets to bring our site directly to your Facebook, MySpace, iGoogle, or my Yahoo! account - or to any web page or blog you want
Of course, you'll also find my biography, videos, links to the social networks I'm on - and a whole lot more. I look forward to hearing your thoughts and ideas, because after all, this site is about you.
I am well aware that these are trying times we face in Michigan. For far too long, partisan bickering has plagued our state. We must come together to collectively work to solve these problems. This website is a strong tool to help develop and discuss common sense solutions that help people. I intend to use it for that purpose and I hope you will join me in that process. Together, we can make the changes that are needed in Michigan. Visit www.peopleforcherry.com, and let's get started.
Thanks,
John Cherry
Lt. Governor
