While the 2010 state election is still many months away, one candidate for Governor, Lt. Governor John Cherry, launched his campaign website earlier today. Following the launch the Lt. Governor sent out the following email message:

I wanted you to be one of the first to know the exciting news: the website for A Whole Lot of People Supporting John Cherry is now live at www.peopleforcherry.com!

I have enjoyed learning more about new technologies to make our government more transparent and open to citizens. Last year, I was the first Lt. Governor in the country to join Twitter, and have been active on Facebook for some time now. Ultimately, this is a website for you. To that end, you can submit photos and videos on our site, and we'll feature them. But, that's not all.

www.peopleforcherry.com also features:

   * A full blog, with all of my blog posts from the summer collected together. There are more posts to come, and I look forward to hearing your comments too!

   * A newsroom, where you'll find the latest news stories, including the recent endorsements by A Whole Lot of Democratic county party chairs, municipal officials, and county leaders

   * The ability to sign up for email news updates on the issues you care about, and to sign up to volunteer in your area

   * Posters and stickers to download and print

   * Widgets to bring our site directly to your Facebook, MySpace, iGoogle, or my Yahoo! account - or to any web page or blog you want

Of course, you'll also find my biography, videos, links to the social networks I'm on - and a whole lot more. I look forward to hearing your thoughts and ideas, because after all, this site is about you.

I am well aware that these are trying times we face in Michigan. For far too long, partisan bickering has plagued our state. We must come together to collectively work to solve these problems. This website is a strong tool to help develop and discuss common sense solutions that help people. I intend to use it for that purpose and I hope you will join me in that process.
