CHAIRMAN'S CORNER

April 2010

I would like to thank all who attended our Annual Membership Chicken Dinner, and a special thanks for all the individuals who helped set-up and run all the events and activities. And finally thank Kawkawlin Township for the use of the Hall.

Our next big event is our Annual Spring Fling. I would hope this event is as good as they have been the last few years. The event will be held at the Doubletree Hotel in downtown Bay City on May 7, 2010 starting at 6:00 p.m. will drinks, buffet dinner and entertainment. Hope to see everyone their as this event raises money to run our election this fall.

The State Democratic Party will be hosting its first Endorsement Convention on April 17th at COBO Center in downtown Detroit, Michigan. Bay County has two (2) Congressional Districts 1st and the 5th Congressional Districts, with the 1st district having 11 delegates, and the 5th district having 28 delegates. The Jefferson-Jackson Day Dinner will also be held on April 17th starting at 6:30 p.m. at the COBO Center. The State Democratic Party was  pleased to announce House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer of Maryland as our Keynote Speaker. Congressman Hoyer is one of the most respected leaders in Washington. He was elected House Majority Leader by his Democratic colleagues in 2006, and re-elected in 2008. Congressman Hoyer is currently serving his 15th term in Congress, making him the longest-serving member of the House of Representatives in Maryland's history.

Mr. Hoyer played an instrumental role in passing health care reform - which will help millions of people in Michigan afford health insurance - and he is well known for pioneering the Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990. At the March monthly meetinga motion was made and supported to purchase an half page AD for the Jefferson-Jackson Dinner.

Hope everyone had a great Easter, and I am looking forward to seeing everyone at our next Monthly meeting on April 27, 2010, at the American Legion Post 18 at 7:00 p.m..

February 2010

I would like to reiterate what I said at our Annual Christmas Party, about the 2010 U.S. Census. Census information affects the number of seats your state occupies in the U.S. House of Representatives. People from many walks of life use census data to advocate for causes, rescue disaster victims, prevent diseases, research markets, and locate pools of skilled workers and more. When you do the math, it's easy to see what an accurate count of residents can do for your community. Better infrastructure, more services, a brighter tomorrow for everyone.

In March of 2010 census forms will be delivered to every residence in the United States and Puerto Rico. When you receive yours, just answer the ten short questions and then mail the form back in the postage-paid envelope provided. If you don't mail the form back, you may receive a visit from a census taker, from May to July who will ask you the questions from the form. If you know individuals who winter in other states, please have them wait until they get back to their main residence to fill it our so that the data is counted here in Michigan.

Don't forget our chicken dinner at the Kawkalin Township Hall, Sunday, March 7, 2010. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door.

Our next fundraiser event will be the Annual Spring Fling on Friday, May 7, 2010 at the Bay City Double Tree Hotel.

See you at our next meeting at the American Legion Post 18, on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at 7p.m.

January 2010

First of all I would like to wish all a Happy New Year. We face another year of dramatic, social, and economic challenges in 2010. This year we will be very busy since this is an election year. I am receiving many offers from different candidates to speak at our monthly meetings.

Please mark your calendars for our first event of the New Year, which is the Membership Chicken Dinner on Sunday, March 7, 2010, at the Kawkawlin Township Hall, 1800 Parish Road, Kawkawlin. The second event is our annual Spring Fling to be held on Friday, May 7, 2010, at the Double Tree Hotel.

I am glad another hurdle has been cleared for the new coal plant to be built. Reminder that the Party went on record as support of this project.

Our next meeting will be January 26, 2010, at the American Legion Post 18.

Hope to see you there!

--- Tony Pawelski
