THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN REPUBLICANS AND DEMOCRATS

By Michigan Justice Caucus

DEMOCRATS
(also known as the progressives)

Believe in a society that is fair for everyone, ‘by the people, of the people, for the people’, All Of The People…

Believe that people are more important than money

Believe that government should help everyone with the problems they cannot solve themselves.

Believe most tax cuts should go to American families working hard to increase their purchasing power. Two thirds of the American economy is based on consumer spending, and increasing purchasing power strengthens every American’s economy.

Believe in high wages and fair profits, which which Strengthen the economy.

Want stronger unions so they can fight for better wages and employee benefits.

Believe that the people should run the government And election laws should make it easy to vote.

REPUBLICANS
(also known as the conservatives)

Believe in special benefits for the wealthy at the expense of everyone else.

Believe that money is more important than people.

Believe government exists to benefit the wealthy and money spent on ordinary citizens is wasted Government spending.

Believe most tax cuts should go to the wealthy, so they can invest more. Investment represents such a small part of the economy that shifting money from consumer spending to investments actually weakens the economy.

Believe in low wages and super profits Weaken the economy.

Want weak unions to make it easier for employers to increase profits by lowering wages and benefits.

Believe the wealthy should run the government; since the wealthy are a relatively small group, the lower the voter turnout the better. Republicans believe that election laws should make it as hard as possible to vote. For example, holding elections during the week when most people are at work. Republicans also look for ways to keep from counting all the ballots, do you remember Florida in the 2000 Presidential election?.
